NOTE: The Radio Shack PRO-106 and PRO-197 will require the use of a USB
cable available directly from Radio Shack. You can go to their Web Site

*** Why would you need a USB Cable / Converter? Uniden radios all
utilize a traditional serial port to communicate with a PC. Today's
Laptop PCs, and many Desktop PCs, do not have many, if any, serial ports
available. But, they do have USB (Universal Serial Bus) Ports.
USB Ports can handle several devices, and can easily be expanded using a USB
Hub. Our USB to Serial Port Converters/Cables plug into any available
USB Port, can be configured as COM1 through COM9 (or higher), and are recognized
by your Windows Operating System as a standard COM port. Just plug your
scanner, or handheld scanner's cable, into the converter and go.
